Project overview
Blackwater asked me to design a website that could speak with confidence to a very specific audience: network owners who need their buried fiber located, audited, and engineered without guesswork. Outside plant work lives or dies on precision, and the site had to reflect that. My goal was a site that felt as exact as the work itself, signaled real expertise on every page, and turned a routine search for a fiber locator into a clear path toward the right conversation with Kyle.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was tone. Blackwater is a one-person operation competing against firms with full crews, and the site had to read as confident without overpromising. Every line of copy had to feel like the work itself, deliberate, precise, no filler. On top of that, the site needed to communicate technical fiber services like RTK-grade locating, OTDR fault-finding, and OSP engineering in language that a city IT director could trust without making a seasoned utility engineer roll their eyes. Built from a blank slate, brand and all.

Results
The finished site delivered a precision-built experience worthy of the work Blackwater does in the field. Each audience, from city engineers to school district IT teams to BEAD program managers, now has a clear path through the site, and the design reinforces the company's expertise on every page. Built from a blank slate, full brand identity, copy, and structure shaped through direct collaboration with the owner, the project launched in 2026 and positioned Blackwater as a serious contender for fiber work across the country.
